A Syncro Safari event is a gathering of Syncronauts (owners of all-wheel-drive, Vanagon Syncros) from near and far to do some off-road trail driving and get to know fellow Syncronauts. We change the location change each year to provide a greater variety of both scenery and Syncronauts. So far we’ve held Syncro Safaris in eight states and Mexico!
Moab, Utah - 1998
Near Yellowstone in Montana and Wyoming - 1999
Mammoth Lakes in California’s High Sierras - 2000
Baja California - 2001
San Juan Mountains of Colorado -2004
Death Valley, California and Nevada - 2005
Tombstone, Arizona - 2006
Bend, Oregon - 2007
At a Syncro Safari event we do mild to moderate 4-wheeling in a family friendly environment. We focus on both the 4-wheeling and the people attending the event. Since the event is a week long, we get a chance to get to know each other and often form lasting friendships from these events. We travel together, camp together, eat together, and share stories and maybe even some songs around the campfire at night. Although each Syncro Safari is unique, in a typical Syncro Safari week we might arrive on Sunday, then do four-wheeling on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This leaves Tuesday and Thursday open for other individual or group activities at each participant’s discretion. Saturday, we head home. We travel only on legally established 4x4 trails and never go “cross country”, so as to protect the environment we’re enjoying. The pace of a four-wheeling day is fairly relaxed with time for breaks and a lunch, before going back to camp
